  73. This package contains Replicator (TM) by Stevenson Technical Services,
  74. Inc. (STSI).  This document contains only a brief description of the
  75. package and its features, along with instructions for its installation.
  76. Quite detailed documentation is included in the package, but it is in
  77. archived form, and is more easily read after installation.
  78.  
  79. Replicator is a program designed to take a "snap-shot" of a floppy
  80. diskette, and store the information in an image file.  This image file
  81. contains all of the information stored on the original diskette,
  82. including DOS, directories and sub-directories, programs, and data.
  83. The image file can be stored on a hard disk, and even transferred
  84. over a modem.  When the diskette is needed at some future date,
  85. Replicator decompresses the image file onto a blank (formatted)
  86. diskette, creating a look-alike version of the original.
  87.  
  88. In addition, Replicator maintains a complete database of the disk images
  89. that have been created.  Each disk image entry in the database can
  90. hold up to 10 description lines, the date the image file was created,
  91. and a complete list of all files contained on the original diskette!
  92. The database can be edited, browsed, searched, and printed. Network
  93. support is included for multi-user environments.

  95. Replicator is a shareware program.  This evaluation version includes
  96. all features of the program.  There is a 25-record database limit to
  97. encourage users to register.  You may use Replicator for up to 2 weeks,
  98. without charge (see REPWIN.DOC for more details).  If you like the
  99. program, and wish to continue its use after this evaluation period, you
  100. are required to pay for the program (see REGISTER.DOC for more details).
  101. Any fee you may have paid to others (disk vendors, dealers, etc.) to
  102. obtain this evaluation version was a fee for their copying and
  103. distribution services, rather than a payment for continued use of the
  104. program.

  126. Installing Replicator For Windows
  127.  
  128. The installation procedure for Replicator is quite simple.  The package
  129. includes a program, "SETUP.EXE", which automates the entire process.
  130. You will need about 1 megabyte of available disk space on the hard drive
  131. on which you plan to install Replicator.
  132.  
  133. The exact steps you need to take will depend on how you received
  134. Replicator.
  135.

  137. Installing From Diskettes
  138.  
  139. To install from diskette(s), you need to perform the following steps.
  140.  
  141. 1. Place Replicator distribution diskette "Disk 1" in the appropriate
  142. diskette drive.
  143.  
  144. 2. From Program Manager, select Run. Execute the "SETUP.EXE" program on
  145. the distribution diskette. For example, if the distribution diskette is
  146. on drive A:, type the command, "a:setup".
  147.  
  148. 3. Follow the instructions presented by the setup program. You will have
  149. a chance to approve installation before any changes are actually made to
  150. the contents of your hard drive. The program will ask you for a
  151. destination directory, and will copy the Replicator files to that
  152. directory.  If you received Replicator on two diskettes, you will need
  153. to insert Disk 2 in the diskette drive when asked to do so.  If you so
  154. direct it, the installation program will install executable programs and
  155. documentation in other directories of your choice.

  158. Installing From A Hard Drive
  159.  
  160. If you downloaded Replicator from a BBS (or received it in the form of
  161. archive files from some other source), you will need to perform the
  162. following steps.
  163.  
  164. 1. Extract the contents of the archive file(s) in a temporary directory
  165. on your hard drive.  The procedure for doing this varies, depending on
  166. the form in which you received the package. In all likelihood, the fact
  167. that you are reading this text means that you already have the necessary
  168. tools and knowledge to perform this step.  If not, you should be able to
  169. obtain directions for this from the same source from which you received
  170. the package.
  171.  
  172. 2. From Program Manager, select Run.  Execute the "SETUP.EXE" program
  173. which you have extracted.  For example, if the temporary directory into
  174. which you have extracted the files is C:\TEMPDIR, you would type the
  175. command, "c:\tempdir\setup".

  185. When you're satisfied that the installation was successful, you should
  186. delete the temporary directory FROM which you installed the program,
  187. (C:\TEMPDIR, in the above discussion), including all its contents.

  190. Note :  If you are upgrading from a previous version, Replicator will
  191. issue a warning before overwriting the file REPWIN.INI.  If you have
  192. already set up your registration information and user preferences in
  193. Replicator, answer "N" (No) to instruct the setup program not to
  194. overwrite this file.  When the installation is complete, a message box
  195. will be displayed, and when you select Ok the setup program will
  196. terminate.

  198. Users who currently have Replicator For DOS may want to share the
  199. database information between the two programs.  To do this, simply
  200. install Replicator For Windows into the same directory where Replicator
  201. For DOS is located.  Replicator For Windows will automatically use the
  202. same database files as the DOS version.  (Likewise, users installing the
  203. DOS version can install Replicator For DOS into the same directory as
  204. the Replicator For Windows directory.)
